A common analogy for understanding culture is the iceberg. For example, a person’s own actions and the stereotypes that others hold about that person, peak out above the water. Whereas, the values and norms that dictate those actions and that inform said stereotypes lie below the waters, obscured by the waves of society.

Every workplace strives to be a safe and enjoyable location for their employees, but sometimes issues arise due to lack of awareness. This lack of awareness leads to microaggressions, or the subtle, nagging slights against someone that target race, gender, sexuality, or other things out of one’s control, and are prevalent in the workplace.
